Black Label Society Shakeup

Black Label Society drummer Will Hunt has left the band with immediate effect. He’ll be replaced by Johnny Kelly of Type O Negative and Danzig fame in Paris tomorrow night, and for the rest of the band’s European tour. A statement says: “Will Hunt is no longer with BLS, and replacing him is Johnny Kelly. Additional information will be announced soon.”

Grohl dedicates award to Cobain

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl dedicated his NME Godlike Genius Award to his late Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain in London on Wednesday night.

The drummer was handed the accolade during the star-studded ceremony at the O2 Academy in Brixton, where famous friends like Paul McCartney, Jack Black and his Them Crooked Vultures bandmates Josh Homme and John Paul Jones paid tribute to the rocker in video messages. (more…)


Ambassador Ozzy Osbourne

Who better than the Prince of Darkness to add a little extra class to 2011’s Record Store Day? Ozzy Osbourne has been named the day’s official ambassador.

Taking the gig means Ozzy now has “the power to command you to attend Record Store Day” (in his words).

Record Store Day 2011 will take place at independent music retailers on April 16. Each store will feature a bevy of exclusive vinyl and CD singles, EPs and albums. As ambassador, Ozzy won’t be left out. A 7″ vinyl release for “Flying High Again” and “I Don’t Know” (live) will be one of the items available.

Red Bull Records Names Joe Guzik SR VP

Red Bull Records has announced JOE GUZIK has joined the music company as Senior Vice President, Promotion & Integrated Marketing.  In his new position, GUZIK will lead the charge for radio promotion representing Red Bull Records’ talented and emerging artists–AWOLNATION, Black Gold,Innerpartysystem and Twin Atlantic.  In addition to spearheading the label’s airplay and media strategies, GUZIK will incorporate multi-platform media programs to maximize artist development.
